Fiat Dovunque 33

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Fiat Dovunque 33, also known as the Fiat 612 and the SPA Dovunque 33, was a military truck launched in 1931 by Fiat V.I. and its subsidiary SPA. It was born as the Fiat 612 in 1931 to succeed the three-axle Fiat 611C Colonial. Tests of the prototype showed its worth and the first batch was ordered early in 1932; after it was shown to the authorities during the manoeuvres of August 1932 it was adopted and renamed Dovunque 33, dovunque meaning everywhere or all terrain in Italian. The first examples went to artillery regiments as command and liaison vehicles, and a special version carried a 120 millimetre searchlight for field anti-aircraft batteries. It first saw action in the Ethiopian war, where 85 examples showed excellent off-road ability but an engine that was not powerful enough and driving that was not easy; Hungary bought 33 in 1936. It was a 6x4 on a robust frame, with the rear tandem able to take tracks, a Fiat 122B six-cylinder petrol engine of 2,953 cubic centimetres and a platform for 20 soldiers or 2.0 tonnes. The Dovunque 35 replaced it from 1936.
