The Dodge WC-54 was the main military ambulance variant of the prolific Dodge WC series of light 4x4 trucks developed during World War II. It was a three-quarter-ton 4x4 ambulance, built from 1942 until 1945, that served as the US Army's main dedicated ambulance, with many also serving in the Korean War and some used as late as 1953, while others served into the 1960s in the armies of some European countries. It was designed as successor to the earlier half-ton WC-9, WC-18 and WC-27 ambulances, kept a longer wheelbase and softer suspension, and had a closed sheet-metal body by Wayne Body works with room for a driver, a medic and four to seven patients. A large cab heater and a fold-away rear step suited its role, and drivers preferred it to rival ambulances because of its four-wheel drive. A knock-down WC-64 version followed in 1945.
