The Chrysler TV-8 was a medium tank design that Chrysler Corporation proposed in the 1950s, intended for both land and amphibious warfare. It followed the company's Astron X-weapon project and used an unconventional layout: the whole crew, the engine and the ammunition sat inside a pod-shaped turret mounted on a lightweight chassis that could be separated for air shipment. The total weight was approximately 25 tons, with the turret weighing 15 tons and the chassis 10 tons. The phase I design paired a Chrysler V-8 of 300 gross horsepower with an electric generator that fed two electric motors driving the tracks, and a water jet pump gave propulsion in the water. The main gun was a 90 mm smoothbore. Review found no significant advantage over conventional tank design, the project was terminated on 23 April 1956, and the design was never produced.
