The Nissan Caravan is a light commercial van, designed as a fleet vehicle or cargo van, that Nissan has manufactured since 1973. Between 1976 and 1999 a rebadged twin was sold as the Nissan Homy, a model first built by the Prince Motor Company in 1965, and outside Japan the Caravan was also sold as the Nissan Urvan or King Van, earlier with Datsun badges. In Japan the Caravan was exclusive to Nissan Store dealerships and the Homy to Nissan Prince Store locations. The generations were the E20 of 1973, the E23 of 1980 and the E24 of 1986 to 1999, which the Nissan Elgrand replaced. Every generation used a cab-over layout to maximize interior space within set exterior dimensions, and its traditional rival from Toyota was the HiAce. It was popular in Europe with fire departments and as an ambulance.
