The Ford-Utilimaster Flexible Fuel Vehicle, originally the Carrier Route Vehicle, is an American light transport truck designed as a mail truck for the United States Postal Service, its main user. Ford supplied a stripped down right hand drive Explorer chassis and drivetrain from its St. Louis Assembly Plant and Utilimaster built the aluminum body and fitted it at Wakarusa, Indiana. It can run on unleaded gasoline or E85 ethanol blend using the Ford 4.0 litre Cologne V6, rated at 160 hp, with a five speed automatic. The postal service asked for bids in August 1998 to replace Jeep DJ-5 vehicles, awarded the contract that September, and the first production truck was completed on 17 December 1999. The final order was 21,275 trucks delivered in 2000 and 2001, and it looks like the Grumman LLV but has a cargo area window behind the sliding door.
