The Fiat 642 is a truck produced by Fiat Veicoli Industriali from 1952 to 1963, the year in which the Fiat 643 replaced it. In 1955 it received a new cab, called baffo, moustache, after its new grille, and was renamed N2. The mechanics were slightly updated and the engine stayed the 6650 cubic centimetre unit of 92 horsepower. The N6, N6R and T6 followed, the last two with 100 horsepower at 2200 revolutions, and in 1960 the final update brought the N65, N65R and T65 with a 7290 cubic centimetre engine of 120 horsepower. The maximum combination weight was 23 tonnes and the towable weight 12 tonnes. The first versions had the Fiat 364 engine, a six cylinder of 6032 cubic centimetres. The Fiat 642 RN was the bus version, with a lowered chassis, replaced in 1958 by the Fiat 309.
