A masula boat, also spelled masulah, is a traditional surf boat used along India's Coromandel Coast, built from planks sewn together with coir rope rather than fastened with nails or rigid frame timbers, giving the hull the flexibility to absorb heavy surf. Masula boats were historically used to ferry passengers and cargo between ships anchored offshore and open beaches at ports such as Madras, before the construction of modern harbor facilities.
