Early American Steam Locomotives

The first steam locomotives to run on American railroads in the 1820s and 1830s, some imported from Britain and some built at home, which opened the railway age in the United States. An entry belongs here when the cited article calls the locomotive an early or first American steam locomotive. It excludes British pioneer locomotives and the large main-line steam engines of the twentieth century. Entries are placed by what their own cited article says, so each one sits in the narrowest group its source supports, and the group page lists it beside the other members.
