Figures from before modern rocketry credited with early use of rockets or with early attempts to launch themselves into the air with rockets or wings. An entry belongs here when the cited article calls the person an early rocket experimenter or aviator in the Ottoman or Chinese tradition, or credits the person with fielding or developing the black powder rockets of the era, as with the Mysorean rocket corps. It excludes twentieth century rocket engineers. Entries are placed by what their own cited article says, so each one sits in the narrowest group its source supports, and the group page lists it beside the other members.
