Honda introduced the Dio AF62 in 2003 as the next stage of the Dio lineup after the Smart Dio series, still with a 49 cc air cooled four stroke engine. It adopted a more conservative, commuter-oriented design with simplified styling, an electric starter, a CVT and drum brakes at both the front and rear, and the Dio Cesta variant had a large front basket for utility use. The Dio won Scooter of the year 2003 from the BBC.
