Honda launched the SB50 Elite ES in 1988 to follow the Spree (NQ50), which was quite popular then, and the bigger Elite SR/LX (SA50) was released that year too. Although the SB50 shares some design elements with the Elite SR/LX, the two are almost entirely distinct: the SB50 is considerably smaller, with a distinct engine, frame and suspension combining elements of the Spree engine with a miniaturized version of the Elite SR/LX style.
