International Transport Workers' Federation

The International Transport Workers' Federation, known as the ITF, is a democratic global union federation of transport workers' trade unions, founded in 1896 and headquartered in London, England. It represents workers across every transport sector, including aviation, maritime shipping, railways, road transport and urban transit, and maintains a global presence through offices in eleven cities across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. As of 2017 the ITF comprised 677 member organizations in 149 countries, together representing a combined membership of about 19.7 million transport workers. The federation's central role is to represent the interests of its affiliated unions before international bodies such as the International Labour Organization, the International Maritime Organization and the International Civil Aviation Organization, while also organizing cross-border solidarity actions among affiliated unions, for example in disputes over flag-of-convenience shipping or labor conditions on international transport networks.
