The EMD SD89MAC was a 4,500 horsepower six-axle C-C diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division. Along with the SD80MAC and SD90MAC it was among the largest single-engine locomotives EMD produced. It had AC traction motors, radial steering trucks and an isolated cab mounted on shock absorbers, and as a hood unit with a safety cab it carried the same wide radiator section as the SD90MAC. It was meant to be a less powerful version of the SD90MAC and an eventual successor to the SD70 series, but only one demonstrator, GM 92, was built and it drew no orders.
