The EMD SD45-2 is a six-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division, an improved version of the EMD SD45 in the Dash 2 line. EMD built 136 between 1972 and 1974, primarily for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Like the SD45 it had an EMD 645E3 20-cylinder engine producing 3,600 horsepower. The main visual difference is the long hood, flared on the SD45 and vertical on the SD45-2, with the rear cooling fans spread out across the top. Santa Fe 5704 is preserved at the Southern California Railway Museum, and CSX 8954 was the first SD45-2 preserved.
