EMD MP15AC

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The EMD MP15AC is a 1,500 horsepower diesel road switcher locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between August 1975 and August 1984, a variant of the MP15DC with an AC/DC transmission. A total of 246 were built, including 25 for export to Mexico and four built in Canada. Its alternator and silicon rectifier replaced the DC generator, which made it 1.5 feet longer and more reliable, and it can be told apart from the DC models by side intakes and electric fans instead of a front radiator intake. It used a roots-blown 12-cylinder 645E engine.
