EMD GP28

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The EMD GP28 is a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between March 1964 and November 1965. An EMD 16-567D1 16-cylinder engine generated 1,800 horsepower, and the locomotive was basically a naturally aspirated version of the EMD GP35. It was a small production run: 16 examples were built for American railroads, 10 for Mexican railroads and five for use in Peru.
