The X 2400 is a class of diesel railcars of the French national railway SNCF, built by Renault and Decauville in a series of 79 units from 1951 to 1955 and used until 1989. The first 69 cars, X 2401 to X 2469, weigh 43 tonnes and carry two Renault 517G engines of 250 kW each, while the last ten, X 2470 to X 2479, weigh 44.5 tonnes and have two Saurer engines of 235 kW each. A car is 27 m long, seats 12 passengers in first class and 56 in second class, and reaches 120 km/h. The class was first allocated to Limoges and ran on the lines of the Massif Central with XR 8000 trailers, and was later moved to Rennes because its maintenance cost more than that of the single-engined X 2800. The X 2403, restored by the Chemins de Fer de la Haute-Auvergne, is the oldest operational former SNCF railcar and is licensed for the whole French network except the high-speed lines.
