SNCF Class Z 26500

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The SNCF Class Z 26500 and Z 24500 are a series of electric multiple unit trains with bi-level carriages, derived from the Coradia Duplex type of Alstom. They are also known as TER 2N NG after their regional TER use, their bi-level design and their status as a new generation replacing the Z 23500. SNCF's first order, commissioned by the French regions, was launched in 2000 and the last in 2009, with deliveries lasting from 2004 to 2010. SNCF distinguishes the Z 24500 series with two or three cars from the Z 26500 series with four or five cars, and each car is powered by a twin-engine arrangement of 850 kilowatts per bogie. The national railway company of Luxembourg joined several orders to buy 22 trains known as CFL Class 2200, and the Swedish SJ X40 series is a version of the Z 24500 adapted to the Swedish climate and network. Orders totalled 791 carriages forming 233 trainsets, and the design aimed at accessibility for people with reduced mobility and a speed of 160 kilometres per hour.
