Siemens Mireo

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The Siemens Mireo is a family of electric multiple units designed by Siemens Mobility as the successor to the Desiro ML variant of its Desiro trains. Siemens introduced the first Mireo railcars at the 2016 InnoTrans trade fair, DB Regio placed the first order in February 2017 for 24 three-car sets, and production began in 2018. The articulated trains have aluminium bodies, which together with new control systems is meant to cut energy use by up to 25 percent compared with earlier Siemens multiple units, and they can reach 160 km/h. Variants include the baseline Mireo, the Mireo Smart three-car product, the Mireo Plus B battery version that can run 80 kilometres on unelectrified lines, the Mireo Plus H hydrogen version with a Ballard fuel cell, a version for Austrian Federal Railways and the Mireo City for suburban services such as the Munich S-Bahn.
