The Shanghai Metro AC01 and AC02, renamed 01A03, 01A04 and 02A01 in 2014, are electric multiple units used on Line 1 and Line 2 of Shanghai Metro. They were built jointly by Adtranz, Siemens Mobility and CSR Zhuzhou Locomotive under a contract awarded on 31 July 1996 for 216 cars in 36 sets, with a further 12 cars in two sets ordered in 2001. The AC01 trains, in red and white, run on Line 1 and the AC02 trains, in green and white, on Line 2. Both were first formed as six-car sets, and from 2006 CSR Zhuzhou Locomotive added two cars to eight AC01 sets and sixteen AC02 sets and built further cars under later contracts, which gave the subtypes AC01A, AC01B and AC01C and then the 2014 names. Cracks found in some frames in 2018 and 2019 took cars out of service for repair, the doors of the 01A03 were converted from pneumatic to electric between 2023 and 2024, and the 01A03 is expected to retire by December 2028.
