The Renault ABV were two-part internal-combustion railcars from the maker Renault for several French railway companies, a further development of the Renault ABJ intended for traffic on high-quality lines in France. Seventeen vehicles were made in two designs that differed in the arrangement of the radiator equipment. They were bought by the PLM, the Etat, the Est, the Paris-Orleans company and the Algerian state railways, and only five survived the Second World War; these ran for the SNCF in France until 1970 and were then retired and scrapped. The ABV is made of two car halves with the drive unit at each end of the vehicle and a Jacobs bogie joining the two halves. The first five went to the PLM for the Paris to Marseille line, then not electrified, where the engine power was enough for a journey time of eight hours between the two cities.
