The MPM-76 is a type of rubber-tyred electric multiple unit built by Alstom for the Marseille Metro. Following the 1971 call for tenders for the creation of the Marseille metro, a contract for the supply of 21 trains of three cars each was signed on 1 November 1973, the first train was delivered on 27 August 1976 at Saint-Marcel station, and the others were delivered gradually until summer 1977. The trains were designed with the help of RATP and its subsidiary SOFRETU, and built by a group of industrialists including CIMT for the bodies and MTE for the electrical equipment. For the second metro line 15 additional three-car trains were ordered and delivered in early 1983, a fourth car was added to the existing trains in 1985, and in 2005 the trains underwent a mid-life renovation. A train is 65.65 metres long and 2.6 metres wide, weighs 75 tons empty, has welded aluminium cars, is supplied with 750 volts DC through a wiper and has a maximum speed of 80 km/h. The type is derived from the RATP MP 73.
