MPM-10

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The MPM-10, commonly known as the Azur, is the third and newest generation of rubber-tyred rolling stock used on the Montreal Metro in Canada, built by a consortium of Bombardier Transportation and Alstom. The first MPM-10 train entered service on the Orange Line in February 2016, replacing the entire first-generation MR-63 fleet, and 71 nine-car trains have been built, in service on the Orange and Green Lines. By the mid-2000s the original MR-63 trains were around 40 years old. In May 2006 the Government of Quebec announced negotiation of a 1.2 billion dollar contract with Bombardier to replace the 336 MR-63 cars; Alstom objected to the direct award, and on 10 January 2008 a Superior Court judge ruled in Alstom's favour, enabling it to bid. The government opened the bidding in February 2008, and in November 2008 Bombardier Transportation and Alstom announced that they would submit a joint bid as a consortium.
