The MP 89 is a rubber-tyred variant of electric multiple units used on the Paris Metro, designed by Roger Tallon, with two types built by Alstom for service on Lines 4 and 14 that began service on Line 6. The trains on Line 1 were moved to Line 4 between 2011 and 2013 to replace the older MP 59s, though only 48 trains are used for revenue service and the remaining four are stored at Montrouge or Saint-Ouen as operational spares. It was the first class of rolling stock on the Metro to include the automatic opening and closing of the doors on the platform side, and it has an automatic audio and visual system that detects the position of the station platform, opens the doors on the appropriate side and announces stations, including a mind the gap warning at curved stations. Another new feature is the interconnecting gangways between cars, which was previously achieved on the prototype BOA.
