The MF 01, also called the MF 2000 after its year of tender, is a steel-wheeled electric multiple unit used on Lines 2, 5 and 9 of the Paris Metro. RATP ordered 160 trains, or 800 cars, in 2001 to replace the ageing MF 67 stock, and the first cars arrived in December 2007, with deliveries completed in 2015. Because of changes in European competition rules RATP opened the bid to many firms, and a consortium of Alstom, Bombardier, Technicatome and CSEE won it at a cost of 800 million euros. It was the first time RATP had assigned four manufacturers to build different parts of one train, and poor collaboration among them delayed delivery by a year. Commercial service began on Line 2 on 11 June 2008, on Line 5 in June 2011 and on Line 9 in October 2013. The trains use a refrigerated ventilation system designed for the Metro's restricted loading gauge and consume about 30 percent less energy than the stock they replaced.
