The London Underground 1995 Stock is the rolling stock of the Northern line, a fleet of 106 six-car trains that entered service between June 1998 and April 2001 and replaced the 1959, 1962 and 1972 Stocks. GEC Alsthom, later Alstom, won the contract in December 1994 against bids from Siemens, Bombardier and ABB, and in April 1995 signed a private finance deal under which it designed, built and financed the trains and also had to maintain them for at least 20 years. The trains were assembled at Washwood Heath in Birmingham with bodyshells made in and imported from Spain. The first train reached Ruislip depot on 20 December 1996. The exterior matches the 1996 Stock of the Jubilee line, but the traction equipment differs. Alstom refurbished the fleet from 2013 to 2015.
