The KTM Class 61 is a diesel multiple unit operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu for its KTM Intercity services on the non-electrified sections of the West Coast and East Coast lines. KTMB announced in 2017 the procurement of 13 DMUs, and CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive constructed them from 2018 to 2020, the first two sets at its Zhuzhou factory in China and the remaining eleven at its factory in Batu Gajah, Malaysia. The trains have a design speed of 140 km/h and are expected to operate at up to 120 km/h. They carry graphene-based supercapacitors for storing braking energy and two MAN powerpacks whose diesel engines can be replaced with fuel cells for zero emissions operation, and retractable steps help passengers board at lower platforms. A launch party on 11 April 2021 inaugurated DMU service between Tumpat, Gua Musang and Kuala Lipis.
