Citadis Spirit

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The Citadis Spirit is a low-floor articulated light rail vehicle originally developed by Alstom for Ottawa's O-Train, marketed as part of its Citadis family and based on the Citadis Dualis, which like the Dualis has pivoting bogies. It is designed for both city-centre and suburban operation, with suspended articulations similar to most North American low-floor light rail vehicles, and can be used for street running with boarding from street or curb and for high-speed travel up to 105 km/h. The first order came from the City of Ottawa for the Confederation Line, which opened in September 2019, and the second from the Government of Ontario's Metrolinx transit agency for Line 6 of the Toronto subway, which opened in 2025. The vehicle is constructed using four types of modules, and must have one centre module, either short or long, as only these carry the pantograph. Power options in addition to pantograph pickup include APS ground conductor technology, on-board batteries for off-wire travel and super-capacitors for short distances. Major parts manufacturing occurs in Hornell, New York, bogies are manufactured in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, and final assembly takes place in Ottawa, Ontario, with a second final assembly plant since established in Brampton, Ontario. Alstom supplied 34 Citadis Spirit vehicles for the Confederation Line and provides maintenance services for 30 years.
