CFL Class 2000

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The CFL Class 2000 is a class of electric multiple units operated by CFL on the Luxembourgish railway network from 1990 to 2025, built in 1990 to 1992 by a consortium of De Dietrich, ANF and Alstom and similar to the SNCF Z 11500 class. The Z2 family of multiple units was designed by Francorail and Ateliers de construction du Nord de la France, and CFL selected a variant of the Z 11500 for its network. The multiple working system allowed three units to work as a single train with one driver, and the individual cars were built with steel frames. Four units were named after places in Luxembourg, Mersch, Betzdorf, Pétange and Troisvierges, and carried the appropriate crests on the side of the driving cab. Within Luxembourg they were used, alongside the 2200 series, for regional services on Line 1 and on secondary lines. Starting in 2024 they were progressively replaced by the Class 2400 and 2450 Coradia Stream units, many were transferred to a Romanian operator, and the last units, 2009 and 2022, were retired on 29 November 2025.
