CFC X 200

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The X 200 of the Chemins de fer de la Corse were railcars built by Renault at its Choisy-le-Roi workshops and put into service on the line from Bastia to Ajaccio in 1950. They gave continuous service on that line for forty years, then moved to the tram-trains of the Balagne between Calvi and L'Ile-Rousse, running in summer on working days. Their legendary robustness meant that about sixty years after they started, three were still officially in service on 1 July 2009, thanks to regular maintenance at Casamozza and engine replacement, but withdrawal was due at the end of 2009. During the war two nearly new Billard railcars were destroyed by bombing and another by fire, and after the war the roads administration ordered eight Renault railcars of the type ABH 8, derived from the ABH 1 and ABH 5 delivered to the Chemins de fer de Provence, which in turn came from the VH, the first French railcar built in large series.
