The British Rail Class 379 Electrostar is an electric multiple unit passenger train designed and built by Bombardier Transportation as part of its Electrostar family. The 2007 government white paper on the West Anglia Main Line led to an order for 30 four-car units in 2009 at a cost of 155 million pounds, replacing ageing Class 317 units, and they entered service in 2011 as the main type on the Stansted Express and on services to Cambridge and Kings Lynn, first for National Express East Anglia and then Greater Anglia. Greater Anglia withdrew the fleet from service in early 2022 because of high leasing costs and put it into long-term storage, but the trains returned to service in 2025 on the Great Northern route.
