The British Rail Class 378 Capitalstar is an electric multiple unit passenger train designed specifically for the London Overground network and part of the Electrostar family of Bombardier Transportation. Transport for London ordered the class in August 2006 after passenger dissatisfaction with ageing Silverlink trains such as the Class 313, and 57 trains were built at Bombardier Derby, the first entering revenue service in July 2009, about half a year later than planned. The design resembles the Class 376 but has fully longitudinal seating like London Underground stock, giving more standing space, and wide sliding pocket doors for quick boarding. Most units were first built as three or four cars and were later lengthened to five cars, and ownership passed to QW Rail Leasing after a sale and leaseback in 2007.
