The British Rail Class 175 Coradia is a type of diesel-hydraulic multiple unit built by the French manufacturer Alstom for its Coradia 1000 platform. Constructed between 1999 and 2001 at Washwood Heath in Birmingham, the first unit entered revenue service with the train operating company First North Western on 20 June 2000. In July 1997 North Western Trains placed an order reportedly valued at 64 million pounds with GEC Alsthom, which was rebranded Alstom in late 1998, and the order was reconfigured to cover 11 two-carriage and 16 three-carriage units, all with a maximum speed of 100 mph or 160 km/h. The specification called for a redesign of the Coradia Juniper family with emphasis on ride smoothness, and the units have airline-style at-seat entertainment, a floating floor and acoustic ceiling panels. By 2003 Wales and Borders and then Arriva Trains Wales inherited the fleet, KeolisAmey Wales took it over in October 2018, and the units began to enter service with Great Western Railway in December 2025 after being leased in 2024.
