The Bombardier Electrostar is a family of electric multiple unit passenger trains built by Bombardier Transportation, which took the design over from Adtranz and sold it under the ADtranz name until 2001. The trains were assembled at the Derby Litchurch Lane Works in England between 1999 and 2017 and became the most common electric multiple unit type in Great Britain after the privatisation of British Rail. They share a bodyshell and core structure with the Turbostar diesel train, both descending from the Class 168 Clubman design, with an extruded aluminium alloy underframe, a single piece roof and glass-reinforced plastic cab ends. Variants serve commuter routes into London from Surrey, the south coast, Essex and Cambridge, the London Overground as Class 378 and the Stansted Express as Class 379. Electrostar units also run on the Gautrain in South Africa. Production ended in 2017 with unit 387174 for Great Western Railway, and the Alstom Aventra succeeded the family.
