Alstom NGT8D

The NGT8D is a low-floor articulated tram built from 1994 to 2012 and used in the German cities of Magdeburg, Darmstadt, Gera and Braunschweig. The name abbreviates the German for a low-floor articulated motor car with eight axles and a three-phase motor. Each car has three sections, with the end sections resting on motor bogies and the middle section on two small-wheel trailing bogies that allow a floor height of 350 millimetres, and every car has a cab at one end only. Alstom, whose LHB works at Salzgitter did the final assembly, briefly marketed the type as the Citadis 200 and offered it to Amsterdam, but that name did not catch on. Magdeburg runs 83 of them, Darmstadt 38, Gera 12 and Braunschweig 12.
