Alstom Metropolis BM4

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The Alstom Metropolis BM4 is the fourth generation of metro trains for the Bucharest Metro, ordered from Alstom on 3 November 2020 after a tender that also drew bids from CAF, Hyundai Rotem, Metrowagonmash and a consortium of Astra Vagoane Călători and CRRC Qingdao Sifang. The contract covers 13 six-car trainsets for the first phase of line M5, with an option on 17 more for the second phase. The trains are built at Alstom's plant in Taubaté, Brazil. Delivery slipped from 2022 to April 2024 because of supply chain problems and a redesign of the car bodies after the prototype was rejected over a tight S-curve near Romancierilor station. The design reuses the Vagn 2000 basis, and Metrorex names each trainset after a Romanian county.
