The Alstom Metropolis 98B is an electric multiple unit built by Alstom and operated by the Warsaw Metro as its third generation of rolling stock. Between 2000 and 2002 and again between 2004 and 2005, 108 carriages were built at Alstom plants in Barcelona and Chorzow, forming 18 six-car trains. Alstom won a third tender in 1998 with a bid of 479 million zloty, and a contract signed on 22 July 1998 required trains adapted to the Soviet loading gauge used in Warsaw. The first four trains were made in Barcelona and shipped to Gdansk, and the other 14 were built in Poland under an offset agreement, with a domestic share of about 60 percent. Current is taken from a third rail.
