Avelia Liberty is a tilting high-speed passenger trainset that Alstom built for the North American market and assembled in the United States, sold by Amtrak as the NextGen Acela. Amtrak ordered 28 trainsets for its Acela service on the Northeast Corridor between Boston, New York and Washington, to replace the first-generation Acela sets of 2000 and to offer more capacity and higher speeds. It belongs to Alstom's Avelia family and is adapted to Federal Railroad Administration Tier III crashworthiness rules. The trailers are based on the AGV, the power cars on the Avelia Horizon, and an active tilt system based on the Pendolino allows a tilt angle of 6.3 degrees. Testing began in 2020, delays followed, and the first five sets entered passenger service on 28 August 2025.
