The SNCF Class BB 7200 is a class of 1.5 kV DC electric locomotives that Alstom built for the French national railway SNCF between 1976 and 1985. It is the direct current version of the Nez Cassé family of locomotives, and each unit is rated for 4,040 kilowatts of continuous power. The class is related to the alternating current BB 15000 and the dual voltage BB 22200, and the Dutch NS Class 1600, a DC locomotive, was based on the BB 7200. Intended mainly for passenger service, the locomotives run only on the 1.5 kV DC network of southeastern France south of Paris, and growing numbers have been allocated to freight with lower geared bogies as TGV services replaced locomotive hauled coaches. Fourteen were converted for push-pull working as the BB 7600 on Transilien Line N, and four were later destroyed in accidents.
