SNCF Class BB 47000

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The SNCF Class BB 47000 is a Prima electric locomotive of 6,000 kilowatts built by Alstom, the quadruple voltage version of the Class BB 27000. Only one locomotive, numbered 47001, was ever built, and it was tested by Fret SNCF with a view to further orders. In 2006 it became clear that SNCF would not order this version, and the locomotive passed to Alstom as a permanent test bed for testing different Alstom technologies. In 2009 the locomotive was stripped of all its technical components, its bogies were reused by the Prima II prototype, and it is now stored outside Alstom's Belfort plant.
