NS Class 1300

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The NS Class 1300 was a class of electric locomotives operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen in the Netherlands, built at the same time as the Class 1100 at Alstom and based on the SNCF Class CC 7100. It is a bigger six axle Co-Co version of the Class 1100. The first was delivered in 1952 and was first used at the opening of the electric service between Zwolle and Groningen. Locomotive 1303 was damaged beyond repair in a collision with an electric multiple unit at Weesp on 19 June 1953, and Alstom delivered a replacement that had originally been intended for SNCF as a CC 7100. Locomotives 1312 to 1316 were delivered in 1956 in Berlin blue, and during the 1980s the class was repainted yellow and every locomotive was named after a Dutch city. The last locomotives were withdrawn in 2000, four have been preserved, and 1304 has since been returned to service by private operators for occasional transfers.
