The EMD F69PHAC was an experimental electric-drive locomotive built in 1989 in a joint venture between EMD and Siemens to test AC traction technology. Only two were made, using the carbody of the EMD F40PHM-2 with a few differences to spot. They were built for the United States Department of Transportation and loaned to Amtrak in 1990 in Phase III paint, then returned to EMD and used with the German ICE train demonstrator that was on loan to Amtrak in 1992 and 1993, when they were repainted in ICE colours. They went back to EMD and were retired in 1999. Both still exist, stripped of many parts, at National Railway Equipment in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
