The EMD E7 is a 2,000 horsepower A1A-A1A passenger diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division at La Grange, Illinois. Production comprised 428 cab E7A units built from February 1945 to April 1949 and 82 booster E7B units built from March 1945 to July 1948. Two 12-cylinder model 567A engines each drove their own generator to power the two traction motors on one truck. It was the eighth model of EMD's E-unit passenger diesels and became the best selling E model. Its less slanted nose, nicknamed bulldog nose, was shared with the E8 and E9. A Gulf, Mobile and Ohio E7A appears in the 1967 film In the Heat of the Night.
