The EMD SD70M-2 is the direct-current traction version of the SD70ACe, built by Electro-Motive Diesel from 2004 to 2011. The -2 in the name indicates that it complies with EPA Tier II emissions rules and has upgraded electronics, echoing the naming of the older SD40-2. It carries the 16-710G3C prime mover rated at 4,300 horsepower. In all 331 were built, 190 of them for Canadian National, and Canadian National 8964, built in February 2011, was the last. Norfolk Southern ordered 130, and smaller fleets run on Vermont Railway and the New Brunswick Southern group of railways.
