The EMD SD70ACe-T4 is the Tier 4 emissions compliant successor of the SD70ACe, built by Electro-Motive Diesel from 2015. The first locomotive, EMDX 1501, was built in summer 2015 and made its debut at the Railway Interchange Expo in Minneapolis on 3 and 4 October 2015. It has a new four-stroke engine, the EMD 12-1010 V12, with a two-stage turbocharger system of three turbos, capable of producing 4,600 horsepower in total. An exhaust gas recirculation system lets it meet Tier 4 without urea aftertreatment, and a double-walled fuel injection system improves safety and eases maintenance.
