EMD SD35

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The EMD SD35 is a six-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division from June 1964 to January 1966. A 16-cylinder EMD 567D3A engine generated 2,500 brake horsepower, and a 3,000-US-gallon fuel tank was used. It shared a common frame with the SD28, giving an overall length of 60 feet 8.5 inches. EMD built 360 for American railroads. Baltimore and Ohio 7402 is preserved at the National Museum of Railroad History and Innovation in Baltimore, and Western Maryland 7436, rebuilt by Burlington Northern into an SD38P, remains operable.
