The Alstom PL42AC is a four axle B-B diesel-electric locomotive designed by Alstom in association with General Motors Electro-Motive Division. Thirty-three were built between 2003 and 2006 for NJ Transit Rail Operations in New Jersey. The first two were made at the Meinfesa plant in Valencia, Spain in 2003 and the other 31 were assembled at Alstom's Hornell, New York plant. Each locomotive has a 16-710G3B prime mover and a total rating of 4,200 horsepower covering tractive effort and head-end power. Its styling resembles the GE Genesis because both were drawn by industrial designer Cesar Vergara. In 2020 NJ Transit said it would replace most of the fleet with ALP-45A dual mode locomotives.
