Port of Rotterdam

Ports and Harbor Infrastructure

The Port of Rotterdam, on the Dutch coast at the mouth of the Rhine and Meuse rivers, is the largest port in Europe and for decades was the busiest port in the world before being overtaken by ports in East Asia. It serves as the primary maritime gateway for goods moving into and out of Germany and much of continental Europe, connected inland by an extensive network of barge, rail and pipeline links along the Rhine corridor. Its facilities extend along a long stretch of waterway from the historic city center out to the Maasvlakte, an area of land reclaimed from the North Sea specifically to accommodate the largest modern container ships.
