Pipeline Mode

Transport of goods, almost always fluids or gases such as oil, natural gas, water or slurried solids, through an enclosed pipe under pressure rather than by a vehicle traveling over a surface. Belongs here: any mode in which the pipeline itself is the transport system, moving the cargo through a fixed conduit with no separate carrying vehicle. Does not belong here: tanker trucks, railway tank cars or tanker ships, which carry fluid cargo but are road, rail or waterborne modes respectively, not pipeline transport.
