Sikorsky S-28

Pioneer and Early Aviation Aircraft

The Sikorsky S-28 was a proposed four-engine biplane bomber designed by Igor Sikorsky to be built in France during the First World War. Sikorsky moved to France in March 1918, where officers of the French air service asked him for an aircraft able to carry a new bomb of 1,000 kilograms. It was first planned with two Liberty L-12 engines, but the technical section suggested four Hispano-Suiza 8 engines instead. The plans were finished by early August 1918 and the project was approved, the French ordered five and preparations began for construction, but the order was cancelled when the war ended and no S-28 was ever completed.
